Hot shooting (RV) Grand View downs Women’s Basketball
Women’s Basketball ran into a buzzsaw in Atchison Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens lost to the Grand View University Vikings 84-59, with the visiting Vikings knocking down 14 3-pointers in the contest.
The Ravens were right there with the (RV) Vikings through 10 minutes of action, with a 3-pointer by the Vikings leveling the score at 20-20 after one quarter of play.
But the second quarter belonged to the Vikings as they outscored the Ravens 25-7 and took a 45-27 lead into the halftime break.
Grand View made half of its 3-pointers in the first half while committing 0 turnovers. The Ravens hit 4 from deep in the first half and shot 42.3% from the field in the first half, but turned the ball over 11 times.
The Ravens matched up much better in the second half, but the Vikings still outscored the home side by 2 points in the third quarter and 5 points in the fourth quarter. The Ravens only turned the ball over 5 times in the second half while also forcing 5 Grand View turnovers.
The Vikings finished the game shooting 45.1% from the field while the Ravens were 41.4%. The Ravens outrebounded the Vikings 39-35.
Leading the way for the Ravens was Twilah Carrasquillo who finished with 13 points and 3 rebounds. She was joined in double-figures by Jennifer Jacobs who scored 10 and grabbed 5 rebounds. Alleigh Kramer had 6 rebounds and 5 points, and Kennedy Nicholson scored 9 points. Aaliyah Raines dished out 5 assists and scored 4 points.
The Ravens (6-9, 3-6 Heart) will try to bounce back in their final game of a four-game homestand when they take on Evangel University at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11.
