Spires Win Convincingly Over Missouri Valley 23-6

The University of Saint Mary Women's Lacrosse team traveled to play Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, resulting in a 23-6 win. With the win, Saint Mary is now 1-0 overall on the year. 

The Spires took the early lead with two quick goals from Paige Ecton and Emily Nelson. A few minutes later, the Vikings responded with a goal of their own to cut the lead in half. With ten minutes left in the quarter, Haley Pettis scored two goals in a row, and Lizzie Merriman added one of her own to make the score 5-2 head into the second quarter. 

 

The Spires built on their lead, scoring the next five goals in the game, three coming from Ecton. As the five-minute mark approached, Ecton scored two more goals while Scarlett Minx got one of her own. Goalie Victoria Naeger held the Vikings to just three goals in the quarter and helped the Spires head into halftime with a 13-5 lead. 

 

Ecton continued to score at will in the third quarter, putting up four of the team's six goals and giving them a 19-5 lead. The Spires put four more shots in the back of the net in the final quarter and gave up just one goal as the clock ran out to make the final score 23-6. Ecton led Saint Mary with 11 goals and three assists, while Pettis had six assists on the day.
