Baseball drops final non-conference game of the season against University of St. Mary

Baseball closed out its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with the return game with University of St. Mary.

The Spires jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first and never looked back as they handed the Ravens a 13-8 loss at Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

With their Heart openers looming this coming weekend, head coach Eric Peterson elected to face off against the Spires with a staff game on the hill. The Ravens used 10 pitchers with Carson Kasl getting the start and suffering the loss. Dominic Susanka finished his outing with 3 strikeouts while Cole Peters and Ethan Arnold threw the final two innings holding the Spires hitless.

Benedictine scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the first on a sac-fly off the bat of Danny Favazza and then Hunter Moffet doubled in a pair of runs in the second.

USM held the Ravens scoreless over the next five innings before the Ravens rallied for a 5-run eighth inning. Ashton Neuman drew a bases-loaded walk to score Favazza. Brylan Haas doubled in Creighton Cordova and Jack Harpole before Skyler Specht hit a sac fly to score Neuman. Haas scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch to wrap up the Ravens rally.

Moffet went 3 for 4 and Favazza went 2 for 4 with two doubles to anchor the Ravens offensive efforts. Moffet and Haas led the team with 2 RBI each.

Benedictine remains at home for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday with Grand View University. First pitch on both days is scheduled for Noon. Should Mother Nature have other plans, updates will be posted to ravenathletics.com and the official Raven Athletic social media chances should changes in the schedule be made.
