Softball Finds Its Groove

After getting off to a 4-4 start to their season the Scottie Softball team has found its groove, winning nine of their last ten games to move to 11-5 on the season. Weather has proven to be one of the toughest opponents for Highland so far this season causing numerous games to be rescheduled or canceled.

The Scotties are led by sophomore Celeste Smith with a .455 batting average, .818 slugging average, and a team leading: 3 home runs, 20 hits, and 7 doubles.

When asked about other standouts for the Scotties, Coach Greg Cary was quick to point out the contributions of Jaslyne Williams and Briana Maldonado. Williams is hitting .400 with a slugging average of .644 and leads the team in stolen bases (10). Maldonado is hitting .405 for the Scotties, is tied with Smith for runs scored (18) and leads the team in walks.

Coach Cary wrapped the interview stating, "The season has started with some ups and downs, including the weather, but we feel good about where we are and where we are headed. The top of our order is giving us a great chance to score and we are getting stronger on defense. If we can find a rhythm in the circle, we will be a difficult team to play in a double header. I'm excited about the future of this program and the challenges ahead".
